Hi, I am Marjolein Witte. I am a painter and a mixed
media artist. I was born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1979.
In 2002 I graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts of Utrecht and was
the third in my family who graduated artschool. Since then I am
working and living in Zeist. Beside making art I work with rationally
disabled people and follow a study in social work.
Artist's statement
My works are a direct registration of what I experience in life and what
captivates me. By my context I am captivated by the ugliness of
life and the ugliness of people. I see a place full of ignorant creatures of mass-destruction:
Human. Through my work I seek acceptation and I am surprised about
the lacks of this highly developed creature. In my portrets I want
to confront myself and the viewer with the dark edges and show no
more than that what's important. I make clear images by the use
of lines and plane fields and try to bring in some tension by combining
flat and plastical forms.
In contrast to these sour images I also paint the
beautiful side of life and like to play with details and decorations.
Lively colors are highly represented in my paintings. They tell
the tale.
Recent work shows my exploration in other types
of art in order to develop and sharpen my picture language.
Enjoy!
