GET A GRIP (2025) is an experimental project with dancer Meriç Tuncer inspired by Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet. Multiple sculptures, three colours – Yellow, Pink and Black -, three music arrangements, three acts – Act One Yellow, Act Two Pink, Act Three Black – and a lot of experimentation and improvisation happened at Expo Bart.
I invited Meriç to try to bring my sculptures to life. Can a sculpture be a dancer, or perhaps a choreographer? What happens when touching sculptures is allowed? I gave the sculptures holes and ceramic climbing holds. In this way, I tried to entice the dancer to enter into a relationship with the sculptures. He could carry them, climb inside them, and drag them. I wore clothing with climbing holds and became one of the sculptures, engaging in contact improvisation. The audience was allowed to participate and touch.
