With Razzle Dazzle I explore the themes of positioning and visibility through the lens of camouflage. Razzle Dazzle is a technique or mechanism that uses disruptive patterns to confuse the observer.
In nature you see this in zebras: when standing together, their stripes merge into a chaotic visual field, obscuring where one animal ends and another one begins. An uncomfortable disadvantage for predators.
Historically, this concept inspired military applications, such as the use of bold, geometric patterns on naval ships during wartime. Known as “dazzle camouflage,” these patterns distorted the perception of a ship’s range, speed, and direction, making it harder for the enemy to target effectively.
